Molecular Genetics Laboratory Technician II

Reports to: Dr. Janet Fulton, PhD

Location: Dallas Center, Iowa


Primary Function

  • Responsible for DNA isolation, PCR, and genotyping

Position Responsibilities

  • Projects as assigned may require direct handling of the birds and may involve avian blood and/or tissue collection

  • Catalog incoming samples into tracking system

  • Maintain accurate records for all samples and results

  • Package and ship samples

  • Development of new techniques

  • Utilize robotics, SNPline Instrumentation, and analysis software

  • Responsible for preparing chemical solutions

  • Responsible for PCR and data analysis

  • Prepare materials for reports

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Agriculture or related job experience

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be detail oriented and possess the ability to work independently or as a critical part of a team

  • 1-2 years related experience required

  • Must be eligible to work in the US.

  • Scope, Complexity—Duties are non-routine with wide variety and new tasks added frequently. This position requires knowledge in a specialized field obtained by advanced educational skills and/or on the job experience.

  • Independent Judgment—Work performed under regular supervision or in accordance with specific procedures, but incumbents must set priorities, organize work, and make occasional exceptions.

  • Analytical Ability—Some analytical ability required for the generation and interpretation of data, but in situations where the problems are not difficult or complex. (Consolidating and balancing activities, summarizing data, etc.)

  • Physical Demand—Required to sit, stand, climb, bend, reach, and move about the facility. Ability to lift 10 to 20 pounds of force frequently.
