PhD Graduate Research Assistantship Position Available
The Department of Poultry Science at Mississippi State University is seeking a highly motivated Ph. D. graduate research assistant who is interested in Escherichia coli (E. coli) challenge and intervention research beginning in the summer semester of 2020. The research will focus on identifying the prevalence, virulence factors, and antibiotic resistance of avian pathogenic E. coli (APEC) in layers and pullets.
The selected candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following tasks:​

Working in a Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory and live challenge facility

Developing research protocols

Performing bacterial challenges and interventions after the challenge

Assisting in vaccine development

Performing data collection and analysis using statistical software

Presenting research outcomes in scientific meetings and conferences and in refereed publications

Qualifications:

M.S. in poultry science, animal science, veterinary science, microbiology or closely related field

Enthusiasm for conducting research at the farm as well as in the lab

Prior microbiology experience preferred but not mandatory

Strong oral and written communication skills
Stipend: $20,000 plus tuition waiver and health care if needed
